o, captain, my captain...
you will be dearly missed!
I was stunned and deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Robin Williams. The world has lost a beloved multi-talented actor, comic genius, and a wonderful human being.
On Sunday (August 10th) I was watching the rerun of Mrs. Doubtfire on the telly. So, imagine my disbelief when I heard of his passing on the morning news the next day. I thought it was another Robin Williams!
But, alas, it was really him. Well, there is only one Robin Williams!
"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute.
We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race.
And the human race is filled with passion.
And medicine, law, business, engineering,
these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.
But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!...
of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless...
of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?"
Answer: that you are here; that life exists, and identity;
that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse;
What will your verse be?" - John Keating, Dead Poets Society

"Monsters are real, and ghosts are real, too.
They live inside us, and sometimes they win." - Stephen King

The actor masked his pain very well. Behind the jokes, his happy demeanor and winsome smile was a haunted, tormented soul. Battling demons of depression most of his life, he succumbed to defeat and committed suicide by hanging himself with a belt in his home. He was only 63.
It is such a tragedy having to lose Robin Williams this way. It's so sad! I hate to imagine how desperate, lonely and, perhaps, even afraid he must have been. And to feel utterly hopeless... that he had no other way of putting to rest the ghosts that tormented him and from buffering himself from the world of pain he was suffering.
And now he is gone!
I couldn't get over it. I am distraught, and I keep crying... more for myself (along with the rest of the world) for our loss.

Fly high, dear Robin! And soar to the heavens...
You're finally free!
thank you for all the joy and laughter you had given us
you will be fondly remembered
Rest in Peace!
